      PLEASE NOTE:  Scholarships are offered through the Northshore Scholarship Foundation, a local nonprofit organization.  The application form for these scholarships is called 
“The Northshore Scholarship Foundation Application” and is available only Online at

Application

     Applicants for these scholarships must reside within Northshore School District boundaries or be attending Northshore high schools on an approved waiver.

     It is acceptable to duplicate the application if applying for more than one foundation scholarship that asks for the same application information.  Transcripts need not be official or sealed.

Grants available to applicants at all secondary schools
   

Les & Vista Anderson Memorial Vocational Tuition Assistance Grants.  Several grants of $1,500 will be awarded and will be eligible for a renewal for a second year of study if good progress is demonstrated in the first year of the grant.  Applicants must show a serious intent to study in a one- or two-year program at a community college or vocational/technical school.  The scholarship may also be used to support an apprenticeship.  (The grants are not to be used for community college if the educational goal is to transfer to a four-year college.)  Financial need will be a consideration.  The scholarships are sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Northshore. Applicants may be current seniors or former students whose class has already graduated.  Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application form. No letters of recommendation are required.  Winners will be notified by May 7.   For graduating seniors and qualifying former students, applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office; for renewals, submitted to the Foundation by March 31, 2009.

Rusty Young Community Leadership Award. One scholarship of $1,850 will be awarded to a Northshore School District graduating senior who has displayed a strong record of service to community as well as leadership at school and has a cumulative GPA of 3.0. The scholarship is sponsored by Northshore Rotary Club and applicants will be interviewed by the Northshore Rotary Club. Selection will be based on academic potential and financial need. Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application. Applicants will be notified of time and place of interviews. Winners will be notified by May 7. Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office.

Janet and Gordon Livengood Memorial Scholarships –One new scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded which may be renewable for an additional three academic years. Financial need will be a primary consideration.  The scholarship may be used at either a community college or a four-year college.  Other criteria to be considered are school/community activities, student leadership, work experience and grade point average.  Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application form.  No letters of recommendation are to be attached.  Finalists will be interviewed.  Recipients of scholarships in 2006, 2007 and 2008 are eligible to have their awards renewed. The winners will be notified by May 7. Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office.  Applications for renewal are due
March 31, 2009 to the Foundation.

Jan Allott ScholarshipOne new scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded to a Northshore School District graduating senior who intends to follow a course of study leading to at least a four-year degree. The scholarship may be used at a two- or four-year college providing that the goal is at least a four-year degree. Candidates should display interest in the fields of social work, education, social sciences or physical sciences. A GPA of 3.0 is required and financial need will be a primary consideration. Service to school and community will also be considerations. Finalists will be interviewed and will be notified of the time and place of interviews. The winner will be notified by May 7. Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office.

Paul Michael Roberts Memorial Music ScholarshipOne scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded.  Applicants must be planning for a career in music.  The scholarship may be used at a 2-year college, a 4-year college, or a specialized music school.  Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application form and attach a student statement regarding career goals.  No letters of recommendation are to be attached.  Finalists may be interviewed and will be notified of the time and place of the interviews.  The winner will be notified by May 7.  Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office.

Julian and Kay Karp “Emerging Scholar” AwardOne scholarship of $2,500 will be awarded. It may be used at either a two- or four-year college.  The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has overcome significant obstacles in life and who, without encouragement or financial support, could find future education out of reach.  Other criteria may include selfless contributions to those in need and impeccable citizenship.  The nominee will probably, but not necessarily, be a “C” student. Students do not submit applications for this scholarship. The recipient will be selected from letters of endorsement or recommendation submitted by Northshore staff members.  To nominate a student for this award, staff members should address a letter to the Julian Karp Scholarship Committee with information about the nominated student.  Finalists for the award may be interviewed.  The winner will be notified by May 7.  Letters of recommendation and endorsement are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District high school Counseling Office.

Karen Ann Olson Forys, PhD Scholarship -  The scholarship amount will be $2,000.  The scholarship will be awarded each academic year to one graduating senior from among Bothell, Inglemoor, Woodinville or the Secondary Academy for Success high school.  The candidate must be accepted into an accredited college or university.  The candidate must be pursuing a degree in either education or the performing arts.  The candidate must demonstrate that he/she is a good citizen, has obtained a high school grade point average of at least 3.0 and provided service to school and/ or community.  Financial need will be a primary consideration with a demonstrated willingness on the part of the candidate to earn a portion of the remaining school expenses that will be incurred obtaining their degree. Applicants should use the standard scholarship application form posted on the Foundation website. Finalists will be interviewed by the scholarship committee of the Woodinville Rotary Club and will be notified of the time and place of interviews. The winner will be notified by May 7. Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office.

Richard A. Hart Memorial Scholarship.  One scholarship of $600 will be awarded.  Candidates must attend Bothell United Methodist Church.  The scholarship is not limited to applicants who live within the Northshore School District. Contact Bothell United Methodist Church for application information and any additional criteria.  

Northshore Auto Technology ScholarshipThe scholarship amount will be $1,000. It will be awarded to an outstanding member of the Northshore Auto Technology program.  Applicants need not submit applications, as the scholarship will be selected from the members of the Auto Tech program.  The winner will be notified by May 7.  

Dr. Frank Love Memorial ScholarshipThe scholarship amount is $1,675. Recipients are selected on the basis of current involvement in school and community service.  Grade point average or academic standing will not be primary considerations.  The intent is to emphasize that education is not an end in itself, but instead is a means by which people become contributing members of society.  The scholarship may be used at a two-year or a four-year college.  Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application form.  Candidates must select "community service" subject as one of four opportunities to express themselves. A letter of recommendation may be attached. Finalists may be interviewed.   The winner will be notified by May 7.  Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office.

Northshore Teacher Education Scholarship.  The scholarship is sponsored and funded by the Woodinville Rotary Club.  The amount of the scholarship is $2,000 and is open to graduates of all Northshore School District high schools.  Applicants must demonstrate interest in pursuing a career in education.  Financial need and service to the school will be considered as well as academic potential.  Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application form.  No letters of recommendation are to be attached.  Finalists will be interviewed by the Woodinville Rotary Club Scholarship Committee and should be prepared to discuss their interest in pursuing a career as a teacher, preferably in the fields of math or science.  The winner will be notified by May 7.  Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office.

Darren Lindal Memorial Aviation Scholarship.  The scholarship is for $1,150 and will go to a person desiring to obtain a private pilot’s or instructor’s license.  The candidates are enrolled in a basic flight-training program at a certified flight school or those who can show evidence of planned enrollment.  The candidate may also apply to have the funds used for advance pilot training such as instrument flying. Financial need will be considered.  Use the specific Northshore Scholarship Foundation form for the Lindal grant.  Graduates may contact the Scholarship Coordinator of the Northshore Scholarship Foundation.   Deadline for applications for the 2009 scholarship is February 27, 2009 at the Foundation at the address listed above. The winner will be notified by April 1.  

Robert C. Knowles Memorial Scholarship.  A scholarship of $2,200 will be awarded.  Criteria will include financial need.  Applicants must have a sincere desire to continue education beyond high school.  High school GPA will not be a primary consideration. Finalists will be interviewed by Northshore Rotary Club and should be prepared to discuss financial need as well as provide information about the proposed course of college study.  Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application form.  No letters of recommendation are to be attached.  The winner will be notified by May 7.  Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office.

Philip Lorey Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship amount will be $1,500. In the case of equally qualified candidates, preference will be given to candidates from Inglemoor High School. Candidates will be planning to pursue training and careers in teaching ministries, missions or Christian music. Applicants will demonstrate academic success that is indicative of success in college and be able to discuss educational goals and career commitment. Applicants should also be able to show evidence of a Christian service lifestyle. Finalists will be interviewed. Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application and include a statement of personal faith and two personal references. Financial need will be considered. Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office. The winner will be notified by May 7. 

Malinowski-Marston Communications Scholarship.  The scholarship amount will be $1,500.  Candidates will have an interest in pursuing a career in print communications (excludes broadcasting, advertising, and public relations careers).  Financial need, academic potential and seriousness of purpose are considerations.  Use the standard Northshore Scholarship Foundation application.  No letters of recommendation are to be attached.  Candidates will be interviewed by the Communications Scholarship Committee of Woodinville Rotary Club and should be prepared to take work samples to the interview.  Applicants will be notified of time and place of interview.  The winner will be notified by May 7.  Applications are due February 27, 2009 at a Northshore School District High School Counseling Office or the Foundation.
